Temporary Closure of Year 5 to 7 classes

Updated - Monday 8 June 2009, 11.58am

As a result of several confirmed cases of H1N1 (human swine influenza) of students in Years 5 to 7, the Department of Health has recommended the temporarily closure of Year 5, 6 and 7 classes at Scotch College.

Children in Years 5 to 7 are not to attend school for a period of seven days starting on Monday 8 June, 2009. The Year 5, 6 and 7 classes will resume on Monday 15 June, 2009. Parents will be notified if this period is extended. For further information during this closure please contact the Middle School on 9383 6957.

Parents are encouraged to monitor children for signs of respiratory illness (fever and one or more of runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat or cough). If your child develops these symptoms, please telephone the Department of Health on 1800 022 222 and arrangements can be made for testing and medical review, if appropriate. If you need to take your child to a doctor or hospital for assessment, please advise them in advance or on arrival that your child may have had contact with someone with human swine flu.

At this stage, the Health Department have no concern about siblings who may be at the School.

The closure of the Middle School is a precautionary measure to help prevent the spread of the virus within the Scotch community and has been recommended by the Department of Health.
