NAIDOC Week 2018 Wrap Up
Week 2 of Winter Term saw the Scotch College community celebrating NAIDOC Week. Students across the College took part in a range of activities that focused on the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Currently at the College we have forty-one Indigenous students from across Australia. Thirty-six of these students reside in our residential community whilst five are day boys. More information about the Indigenous programme at the College can be found here.
Over the last year we have been revisiting the College's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and this was presented at a special NAIDOC assembly this morning. Today's Senior School assembly was preceded by a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country by great friend of the College and Noongar Elder, Neville Collard. A moving address was presented to the assembly cohort by Old Scotch Collegian ('81) Mr Oral McGuire who was presented with a copy of the College's Reconciliation Action Plan.
NAIDOC Week activities included boomerang throwing, dreamtime stories, mural painting, face painting, bush tucker lunch, chapel services and sporting matches. View all the photos from across the week here.
