Cricketers grateful for Scotch support
Scotch College has had a longstanding relationship with the Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club (CNCC) which was evident in spades at Senior School assembly last Friday.
The College welcomed Mr Ralph Goodman from CNCC who spoke passionately to a captivated audience about the involvement Scotch College has had with the club's All Abilities group. Created 3 years ago, the All Abilities cricket group was established to provide children and young adults with a range of disabilities the opportunity to enjoy cricket in a fun, relaxed environment.
Since its inception, Scotch has become actively involved in running training sessions, teaching basic cricket skills and coordinating modified games with the players. Social activities such as outings to Optus Stadium to watch the Scorchers play and post-training BBQ's are also an important element of this initiative. Players travel from other towns and suburbs just to be part of this vibrant group, which speaks volumes of its impact and is something Scotch College is proud to be part of.
Mr Goodman expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the students and staff of Scotch College who so generously give of their time which not only benefits the programme but also has a significant impact on the lives of the players and their families.
"Inclusiveness is an important part of how we should live our lives, and this programme provides that opportunity for those of all abilities to play a sport that they love"
Senior player and Team Captain Dylan Broadway also spoke to the assembly about how the All Abilities Cricket group has helped him develop confidence as a player and expanded his social network, with our Scotch boys fondly referred to as his mates.
New volunteers are welcome and encouraged and can contact Mr David Kyle, Director of Service and Citizenship, to get involved.
